Nara - Nara Prefecture

Nara is located less than one hour from Kyoto and Osaka. Due to its past as the first permanent capital, the city remains full of historic treasures, including some of Japan's oldest and largest temples.

Todaiji Temple, the Great Buddha and the scores of wild deer, who are friendly and quite tame, whilst they roam Nara are all memorable features of this region.

They represent the area's long history and rich diverse heritage, but this is only a small selection of the spectacular sights and experiences proudly offered by this prefecture.

Often referred to as the roots of Japan, Nara is a diverse destination, spiritually important and abounding in nature. The perfect setting for a truly unique Japanese experience and well worth some time exploring as a part of your tour of Honshu Island.
